TOMS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
TOMS
I am not referring to the animated smartphone app Talking Tom or Tom your neighbor.
It is TOMS,
A successful business founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie , an American author, entrepreneur and most significant a philanthropist that has grown his million business by giving to the unprivileged mostly located in the third world countries.
A company that has designed an Argentine inspired shoe called, alparagata, also known as espadrilles or espardenyes which dates back to the year 1322 in Europe, its native name originating from Catalan, Spain.
A flat shoe made of rope soles and upper canvas or cotton fabric.
You may actually already own a pair of espadrilles.

The company also sells eyewear, handbags and coffee.
Business Model
Its business trade mark “One For One” was based on “One For All” as its core business concept, that was adopted by its non-profit arm called “Friends of Toms” that was involved with the project of giving a pair of shoes to those in need for every purchase of a pair of espadrilles by a customer.
Eventually, its corporate social responsibility has extended beyond its shoes for the needy, to contributions and aid to the blind for every purchase of its eyewear by a customer.
A business model that became successful in terms of giving away millions of shoes and aid to the millions of the those in need and at the same creating a strong “brand”.
Business Success
The founder Blake Mycoskie is now worth $300 million and still retains 50% ownership of TOMS after selling the other 50% to Baines Capital to a transaction valued at US$625 million during the time of its purchase.
From a casual visit to Argentina, a traditional footwear had caught Blakes Mycoskie’s attention and owned a pair for himself. His business strategy and CSR vision for this iconic shoe has become immensely successful and popular….. Globally!

Just remember, when you buy a pair of TOMS espadrille, eyewear and other products, you continue to help TOMS with its CSR objectives.
